Ergonomic Mouse-The Theory behind

Most of us when using a normal mouse we will have our palm facing downwards and rest our palm on the mouse, using our right thumb and pinkie finger to move the mouse. While we have been using this method for years and do not really feel anything, it is unknown to most people that this position of handling the mouse is not good to our wrist and the carpal tunnel in the long term.

If what we do with the computer is mostly just browsing the Internet and not working long hours everyday in front of the computer, we might not feel any stress or pain to our wrist. The common position of us holding the mouse with the palm being parallel to the floor is called the "pronated position". In this position our bones in the forearm will have to bend with our wrist. The bending of the bone causes added pressure to be forced on to the carpal tunnel.

Some might refer this to being the cause of the Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and others might also refer the fatigue and stress they felt to their wrist as RSI(Repetitive Strain Injury). The common belief for RSI is the idea that a person has been using a tool excessively, for example a music instrument, a PC keyboard and in this case the PC mouse. Excessive use of a tool without adequate rest can damage the tissue and this will lead to aching to that particular part of the body.

That is the reason why the design of all this "True" ergonomic mouse is focusing on making it vertical. Ergonomic mouse make sure the user will not have to put their palm in the conventional pronated position so it is naturally at the upright position, this will put the carpal tunnel out of harms way if a person was to use a normal mouse for a long period of time. This idea is pretty basic and easy to understand but this does not mean that ergonomic mice will solve all the problems of stress to the wrist and carpal tunnel. There are studies out there that states other otherwise since we are still using out fingers and so on.

Many users claim vertically designed ergonomic mouse does help in relieving their pain. It is up to you to give it a try with ergonomic mice out there. Even if it does not eradicate the problem at least it might help relieve the pain to a level one can tolerate. It is also a good idea to try out these ergonomic mice for the sake of prevention if you are always using a mouse for long hours each day. You might never know how ergonomic mice can save you some money when the injury starts happening.
